Submission Rules.
So, you would like to submit something to us. First of all, yay!
Secondly, here's what you need to know about submitting recs (Recommendations) and linking your own fanfiction pieces on RHC:
NOTE: All rec'ing is done on the forum.
Submitting Nominees for the Monthly Recommendations:
1.) Do not post the actual fanfiction on the forum! This cannot be stressed enough. Your post needs to have a link to another site, mainly because in most cases, you will not have the permission of the author to post their work. Also, this streamlines things.
2.) Post your fic rec in the correct fandom. Right now we have many categories. We will add/subtract categories as needed, or if a member would like become a Fanfiction Scout for a category that's not listed, we will add one.
3.) Please do not rec fics that are on hiatus OR have not been updated for a year or more. Chances are, the author has abandoned them. We may come up with a hall of fame for all of our old abandoned favorites sometime soon, but for now, let's keep it fresh. Completed fics, no matter how old, are allowed.
4.) Please use this basic template as a guide, though you are certainly allowed to add more information, like why you love it:
Subject: Nominee: [fanfic title here]
Title:
Author:
Fandom: (if you are posting in any misc. fandoms boards)
Pairing:
Rating:
Summary:
Link:
5.) If you are posting yaoi/slash (male/male pairings) or yuri (female/female pairings) please specify that somewhere in your rec. Those fics are perfectly okay, but there are some readers out there who aren't big fans and would like a bit of a warning before they click a link. The same goes for anything with extreme content, if the author themselves hasn't already given a warning.
6.) Please don't be discouraged if the fanfiction you rec does not make it to the Monthly Rec List for that week. You may re-submit it after the polls have closed for that month.
7.) Once you've rec'ed some fiction, don't forget to check the poll for the previous week. Polling will typically open on the first of the month and close on the end of the month around midnight, so please vote for your favorite fanfiction during that time. Please note that results for the Monthly Rec List (updated on the main site) will reflect the previous month's polling results.
Submitting Your Own Fanfiction:
This is a good way to gain recognition and possibly be recommended for the Monthly Recommendations, so don't be shy. When there are more member stories floating around, we will eventually launch the R.H.C. fic-hosting site, but for now, please link to your story.
Rules for posting are similar to the Monthly Rec submission:
1.) Do not post recs for your own fics in the Monthly Recommendations section. Please do so in the Members Archive section of the forum (only accessible to registered members). Other members may then rec it to be voted on for the Monthly List. Also, please do not make duplicate accounts to get around this rule. They will be banned, and the recommendation will be removed (though the post in the Members Archive will remain).
2.) Use this template for posting your fic.
Title:
Fandom:
Pairing:
Rating:
Summary:
Link:
3.) Be ready to receive constructive criticism. It is quite possible that someone has a suggestion on how to make your fanfiction go from A to A+. Take those suggestions as just that--suggestions. Ultimately, it is your story, so you decide what works for you and what doesn't.
4.) Be respectful to authors posting their work. It's nerve-wracking to post something for the world to see, so follow the three C's: be considerate, be constructive, and be cool-headed. "Flaming" an author will gain you a one-way ticket to Troll Land. If you don't know what that is, please check out the Forum Rules thread for a description.
We can always use more recs of awesome fanfiction! Sign up to the forum and begin telling us about your favorite fics!
